Introduction

  Welcome! As a novice fisherman, the purpose of this blog is to learn more about freshwater fishing, and to share my experiences and what I’ve learned with others who want to learn more. I have always enjoyed fishing in alpine streams and the ocean, but after moving to college I have a whole new variety of fishing to explore. Throughout this blog I will share my journey as I find new fishing spots, learn how to catch different kinds of fish, as well as fish new kinds of places, such as lakes, ponds, and large rivers. 

I have always loved fishing, and I am currently working at making it a full time hobby of mine. I am learning about new gear, such as lures, baits, and reels. I want to try new techniques like boat fishing and fly fishing. As well as combining this hobby with my love of cooking, and learning how to prepare and cook the different kinds of fish I catch.


I will also be exploring the different species of fish that reside in the waters near me, and how to catch them. In my experience with freshwater fishing I have only ever fished for trout. Throughout my blog posts I will be sharing my experience on trying to catch new species such as bass, steelhead, catfish, and maybe even salmon. 

Overall I hope that this blog not only inspires me to become a better fisherman, I hope to inspire and inform others so that they too can learn how to fish, what to use, and how to eat what they’ve caught. I believe fishing is an activity everyone can enjoy, whether they are on a $20,000 fishing boat, or on a $20 fishing rod, and it is my goal to show that even a novice fisherman with some old gear can catch a variety of species, and gain a lifetime hobby.

River Fishing

  Like with all disciplines of fishing, river fishing has its own sets of challenges and advantages. River fishing consists of fishing from the shore, or from a boat in a flowing body of water like rivers and streams. Brushy banks, shallow depths, rocks, and underwater snags makes river fishing a very challenging (and expensive) discipline of fishing. I have lost more gear fishing in rivers and streams than anywhere else. The danger of snags is everywhere, from trees or bushes on the shore, to rocks and fallen trees that lie hidden under the water. Trolling

  In fishing, trolling is the process of fishing from a boat of some kind, and towing a lure or bait behind the boat to imitate the natural movements of prey in the water. Trolling is used heavily in offshore saltwater fishing to catch monster predators such as marlin and tuna. In fresh water, trolling is used to catch fish such as pike, bass, and trout. The process can be difficult, as obtaining access to a boat is hard.
